If we want a healthy economy, we need to use, promote and support our local independent shops. The Melton Road shops in West Bridgford have so much more going for them than the average shopping street.
Introducing to you some local suppliers to the Melton Road shops
Le Pain a la Main
Introducing our Totally local bakery, based only around the corner of Melton Road.
Jelena has been baking bread ever since her grandmother taught her over 30 years ago. Since that time, she has attended bread making courses at the prestigious School of Artisan Food on the Wellbeck Estate near to Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Le pain à la main is a new bakery producing artisan breads and pâtisseries from scratch using authentic ingredients. We deliver to West Bridgford and around Nottingham.
The business supplies local delicatessens, cafes, restaurants and independent stores in the West Bridgford and Nottingham area. The bread is baked every morning (very early) and delivered fresh and hot to our clients.
We only use four ingredients in our bread, these being: organic flour, yeast, salt and water.
Our bread has absolutely nothing else added to it and is made following traditional artisanal methods.
We offer four types of bread currently. White loaves, wholemeal loaves, Pain de Campagne Sourdough and Malthouse / Granary loaves.
Jelena and Julian will be supplying to The Tall Frog, and C Brumpton the butchers.
Launching the Bridgford Instant Gardening Project (BIG project)
On 3rd March 3 local projects will come together to facilitate quick and easy vegetable growing in West Bridgford.
Ark Solutions,a local manufacture of (collapsible and easy to store) chicken, rabbit and guinea pig runs has joined the project and is also selling flat pack square foot gardens (4ft x 4ft).
If residents want local facilities, whether it be shops, pubs (a subject dear to our hearts!), libraries, whatever, they need to use them as a matter of habit and not just when they run out of milk on sunday afternoon. In turn the shopkeepers need to look at sourcing of their products and go for properly (and preferably locally) produced goods for sale, so as to give themselves an edge over the supermarkets. We are proud to only use British grown malt and hops - most brewers use hops from half way round the world - and that we brew, cask and bottle all our beers locally.

Paradigm
Paradigm Products is a business set up by a group of 16 and 17 year olds from The West Bridgford School as part of a youth business competition, ran by the young enterprise charity. This competition enables us to set up and run our own real company for a year, with the support of a business advisor.
As part of our business we are selling a new and exciting watch. We call it Snap. You simply snap it over your wrist, and watch it curl around to a snug fit. It is unique, quirky and fun and comes in a range of bright, bold colours.
We normally supply our watches through Isobel and Henry @ £10

SoSmoothies
One day in the school holidays, local teenager Ben Nichols was bored and created 2 flavors of fruit smoothie (strawberries & Banana and Pineapple & Mango). He then thought it would be a great business so of he went and designed some labels and created the brand "SoSmoothies". (This was not a typical day off school!).
The business started to grow when he asked the local shops if they would take some off him on a sale or return. This proved a sound strategy as sales figures are growing rapidly.
He is really enjoying SoSmoothies and hopes one day that they could end up on supermarket shelves.
So if you see a SoSmoothie in a shop or at a market, then for smoothies sake pick it up!
if you have any question or want ot stock SoSmoothies please email him
at sosmoothies@mail.com or phone me on 07528963569
Harrington's Handmade Fudge -
I love Fudge! When I was just 10 years old my friend came into school with some fudge her mum had made for her at home - I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever tasted, much nicer than the shop bought fudge. I begged her to give me the recipe but she didn't know how her mum had made it.
Time went by and my love affair with fudge continued into adulthood, I decided to try and make it myself - it couldn't be that difficult! Well it turned out to be quite tricky, it was too hard, it was too soft but after lots of experiments and lots of wasted ingredients I managed to get the balance right and produced what can only be described as the most delicious fudge you will ever taste! I got busy devising recipes and now have a really wide range of delicious flavours: Heavenly Dairy, Chocolate Indulgence, Chocolate Hazelnut, White Chocolate, Scottish Tablet, Baileys Fudge, to name but a few!
I buy really good quality ingredients most of which are sourced locally in independent shops in West Bridgford, and take a lot of pride in making the tastiest fudge I can. Every batch of fudge is taste tested for it's quality - there is never a lack of volunteers for that job!
Hayley and Gayle of 'Harrington's Handmade Fudge' will be in front of the Tall Frog, introducing their wonderfully locally handmade fudge. Harrington Handmade Fudge
