Hannah Merson
Painting is my addiction. I love everything about it; the colours, the texture of the paint, the mess, the brush strokes, the spring in the canvas and even the smell of the turps. Ultimately I hope that the viewers of my paintings love them as much as I enjoyed painting them.

Hannah was born in rural Exmoor in 1976. The surrounding countryside inspired her love of animals and from an early age it was her ambition to become a Vet. However, it wasn't to be, and In 1995 she moved to Nottingham to study Zoology at Nottingham University. After finishing her degree in 1998 and because a friend said she'd never get in, Hannah moved on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG. Since then she has worked for Boots plc in their Audit department and the Alliance & Leicester plc as a Senior Finance Manager doing the Bank's reporting to the Bank of England and the Financial Services Authority.

After the birth of her son Thomas in 2005 and her daughter Gemma in 2007, Hannah took a career break from Finance and started doing animal portrait commissions. She joined the Nottingham Society of Artists in 2009 and also became a Friend of the Society of Equestrian Arists. Hannah has since become the Membership secretary for the SEA which keeps her busy in any spare time!

Artists who inspire Hannah include: Malcolm Coward, Ken Howard, David Curtis, Trevor Chamberlain, Edward Seago, Richard Schmid and Kevin Macpherson.
